“Gender equality in finance 2.0: Towards more equal opportunities?” was released on 9 September at a launch event hosted by the Finance Sector Union of Norway (“Finansforbundet”) in Oslo

“Gender equality in finance 2.0: Towards more equal opportunities?” is a research project conducted by CORE, the Centre for Research on Gender Equality at the Institute for Social Research in Oslo. The research was jointly funded by the Finance Sector Union of Norway (“Finansforbundet”) and the ABGSC Women in Finance Foundation.
The study investigated the barriers to greater gender equality in “front-office” roles in the Norwegian financial sector. To do so, the researchers conducted 33 in-depth interviews with staff in both independent investment banks/brokerage firms, as well as in the investment banking and brokerage departments of large commercial banks.
The project’s findings were presented by the researchers during a launch event in Bjørvika, Oslo, on 9 September. The launch event also featured a panel discussion that explored gender equality issues in the finance industry. The panel discussion was hosted by the Finance Sector Union’s Dag Arne Kristensen and panel participants included the Norwegian Minister of Culture and Equality, Anette Trettebergstuen, and the Foundation’s Chairman, Adele Norman Pran.
The Foundation, with the purpose of providing financial assistance to projects and initiatives that can promote gender equality in the Scandinavian financial industry, is proud to have financially supported the CORE research project as it examines hindrances for gender diversity in the industry and possibilities for change.
The Foundation’s Marianne Daae commented that, “We believe the report’s findings will contribute to a better understanding of the possible initiatives that could increase female participation in the financial sector”.
