On 23 May, the Gothenburg Investment Banking Society (“GIBS”)’s Female Network concluded the inaugural edition of their Female Mentorship Programme, which was launched in March of this year. The programme, which is the first female-only mentorship program to be offered by GIBS, consisted of four sessions (two virtual and two in-person in Stockholm), during which female students were matched with female mentors from the finance industry. Among the contributing mentors was ABGSC Investment Banking Partner Mirjam Medelli. The ABGSC Women in Finance Foundation was also a sponsor of the program, covering the transportation costs for participating students with the goal of making the activity more inclusive for students to attend.

The fourth and final session of the program was hosted by ABGSC at its Stockholm office. The event brought together a group of 20 students and mentors. Also in attendance were guest speakers Therese Nyrén, founder and portfolio Manager at Lucy Global Fund, and Jina Zachrisson, Managing Director of Goldman Sachs and author of “Maktskifte?”, a 2023 book on gender equality in the Swedish business world.

Participating students, who had each applied and been selected to participate in the program, came from either the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, or the Chalmers University of Technology. They had been matched with mentors from ABGSC, Axcel, DNB Markets, EY, IK Partners, PwC and SEB.
ABGSC’s Mirjam Medelli commented that: “It has been such a pleasure to participate in GIBS’ Female Mentorship Programme this spring! I hope my mentee (along with all the other mentees) enjoyed the mentorship sessions and came away from the experience equipped with more insight into the finance industry and the tools to pursue a career within it. I look forward to staying in touch with her as she begins her career and I hope that our paths cross again soon!”
The mentorship program was led by Ly Tran, head of the GIBS Female Network, who aimed to empower and support female students with an interest in finance. The program was designed to offer participating students insight into the finance industry, as well as provide career guidance and connect students with a broader network of industry contacts and like-minded peers. Earlier this spring the Foundation caught up with Ly to chat about the program, as well as her thoughts on the finance industry; you can read the interview here.
