On 13 March, the Women In Finance student group at BI Norwegian Business School (“BI”) hosted its inaugural “Women In Finance Day”. The Foundation was pleased to support the event, which brought together around 100 students from various academic backgrounds. It took place at BI’s campus in Oslo.

The purpose of the event was to provide insight into technology and innovation, investing and finance, and leadership. It featured networking opportunities in addition to presentations by guest speakers from across banking, investment and technology. The Foundation’s Marianne Daae held the opening speech, during which she provided insight into the variety of career opportunities within the world of finance; she also presented research on the barriers affecting gender equality in the finance industry, with a particular focus on work-life balance issues. Additional presenters included: Siw Andersen (CEO, Oslo&Co), Emmah Msuva (Tech, Strategy & Transformation Manager, Deloitte), Mille Opdahl Müller (Head of Credit Research Norway, Danske Bank), and Trond Riiber Knudsen (Founder and CEO, TRK Group AS, an Oslo-based investment and advisory firm). The day concluded with an afterparty at CAYA in Oslo.

This is the first time that the Women In Finance student group has organized this event. Previously, the group focused on smaller events, such as study sessions (which offered academic collaboration in informal settings), company visits (which offered insight into working life in finance), and workshops (which equipped students to tackle real-world problems). The new Women in Finance Day was launched in response to growing interest in the group from students; the organizers’ aim was to create even greater value for the group’s members by providing further learning and networking opportunities
