Wondering what it’s actually like to work in the finance industry today? The podcast “Finansjentene” (“The Finance Girls”) is kicking-off season two with insights and tips
Lone Sjursen Kleveland, Senior FX Dealer at Danske Bank, and Thea Stensaker, Credit Sales Manager at Nordea Markets, found themselves in front-office finance jobs a few years ago, without knowing in advance what their days would look like.
“When we applied for jobs after university, we thought it was challenging to find information about the different positions in finance”, says Thea.
Now settled in their careers, both women spotted an opportunity to encourage and equip the young women who would come after them. In 2021 they launched the podcast “Finansjentene” (“The Finance Girls”). It is a tool that allows them to share their experiences in the field with other young women.
“We wanted to reach out to female students and young women in the early stages of their careers and tell them about what a job in front-office finance actually is and reduce the barrier for women to apply”, Lone explains.
In 2021 the two women produced a total of 10 episodes. The first episode of season two was released 8 September. For season two, Lone and Thea say they have ramped up their game and are eager to reach out to even more young women, hoping the podcast will contribute further insight into the finance industry and “de-mystify” it. Their goal is to attract more women to front-office finance jobs.
“In our podcast, we interview various people in finance, to hear what their job entails, and to show that it is not as scary as many might think”, explains Thea.
The ABGSC Women in Finance Foundation is proud to sponsor season two of Finansjentene. The Foundation’s Marianne Daae comments that: “Lone and Thea share honest and useful information about what it is like to work in front-end finance jobs, and they present the industry in a varied and understandable way. The platform they use – a podcast – has the ability to reach many recipients – especially young people who are curious about the industry. We hope the support from the Foundation will help the podcast grow and expand its reach and that it will inspire more young women to pursue a career in the finance industry”.
“With the support from the ABG Sundal Collier Women in Finance Foundation, the podcast can reach even more people, and we are able to improve the quality greatly. We are very grateful for the support”, says Lone.
