On 9 March the ABGSC Women in Finance Foundation, together with ABGSC, attended the Women’s Finance Day at NHH in Bergen. The Foundation and ABGSC have been the main partners of the event since 2019.
The approximately 140 participating students were provided with insight into the finance industry though debates, lectures and workshops, in addition to the chance to meet representatives from the industry.
The day kicked off with opening speeches by NHH student and head of the event Karina Rønning, together with rector and professor at NHH, Øystein Thøgersen, and the Foundation’s Marianne Daae. Then followed a panel debate on sustainable finance, featuring representatives from the finance industry, and later Mie Caroline Holstad, Chief Investment Officer, Real Assets, at Norges Bank Investment Management, presented a lecture on her work and career path. During the day, students also interacted with the 20 firms that were presenting at exhibit stands, and attended a total of 15 workshops hosted by the various firms. ABGSC representatives Elin Farestveit and Hanna Skolt (of the Investment Banking and Equity Research teams, respectively) hosted a workshop on multiple valuation. The day concluded with a banquet, which brought together students and representatives of the participating firms, to mingle and chat about the finance industry.
The event also included a bonus session (held one week earlier) called the “Women’s Finance Program”, which featured a selection of workshops on topics related to the financial industry. The “Women’s Finance Program” was attended by a total of 75 students, in addition to six different firms, each of which hosted a workshop. Tuva Einang Prestegard and Thomas Helmich Pedersen of ABGSC’s Investment Banking team, and Stian Wibstad of the Equity Research team, presented on the topic of “Pitching with ABG – DCF and Equity Story”.
The Foundation’s Marianne Daae commented that, “The Foundation is proud to have supported the Women’s Finance Day for several years. The Women’s Finance Day has grown into a highlight of the academic year at NHH, and we are so impressed with the students for hosting such an inspiring event. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to creating an event that aims to increase interest in finance among NHH’s female students!”
About Women’s Finance Day at NHH
Women’s Finance Day is an initiative at NHH that aims to encourage female students to pursue a master’s degree in finance (with the goal of increasing the level of female participation in the master’s program to 50%). Ultimately, the event organisers seek to encourage more women to pursue careers in the financial sector. The annual two-day event consists of workshops and speeches with leading financial institutions and influential people within the industry, in addition to exhibit stands which offer students the chance to interact with representatives of various companies within the financial sector.
