On 8 March the ABG Sundal Collier Women in Finance Foundation, together with ABG Sundal Collier, attended an International Women’s Day event hosted by the Women in Finance student group at NTNU Ålesund.
The free, day-long event was designed to provide insight, inspiration, and networking opportunities to participants. The day kicked-off with a an “open-house” session, in which students mingled and chatted about the finance industry. In the afternoon close to 60 students attended presentations by the Foundation and ABGSC. The day concluded with a finance- themed quiz.
The Foundation’s Marianne Daae gave a presentation in which she explained why women should consider pursuing a career in finance. ABGSC credit analyst Benedicte Aass also gave a presentation, in which she explained how she came to study finance and later work in the industry, and what a typical workday looks like for her. Her overall message to students was that the finance industry is not as daunting as one might think, and that the industry offers one the chance to acquire a variety of skill sets in addition to valuable insight into different industries and companies
Feedback from participating students has been very positive, and the Foundation hopes that the event will contribute to more women considering a career in finance. The Foundation’s Marianne Daae commented that “We are extremely proud to have supported the Women in Finance student group at NTNU Ålesund since its creation. As they approach their two-year anniversary, we would like to congratulate them on their impressive growth, and thank them for a great International Women’s Day event”.
The Women in Finance NTNU Ålesund student group was created in 2021 and since then has grown rapidly. In September last year their largest event, Kvinner i Finans, took place, which brought together women from across the finance industry, including ABGSC Investment Banking’s Elin Farestveit. In 2023, the organisation’s core focus will be on providing educational and inspirational event for its members.
About Women in Finance NTNU Ålesund
The Women in Finance NTNU Ålesund student group aims to increase the number of female students who are interested in finance and equip them with the inspiration and tools to make informed choices when it comes to both their personal finances and potential career paths. Their ultimate goal is to help balance the gender ratio in the finance industry, by introducing students to the industry and connecting them to relevant players within it. Most recently, the group has organised activities such as workshops, talks and Q&A panels, as well as social and networking events. Currently, the group has approximately 160 members, distributed across both areas of study and levels of study.
